What is a common feature of rheumatic fever?

A common feature of rheumatic fever is joint inflammation. This condition typically follows a streptococcal throat infection and can lead to a variety of symptoms collectively known as rheumatic heart disease. Joint inflammation, or arthritis, often presents with painful, swollen joints, particularly affecting the knees, ankles, elbows, and wrists. This symptom can occur in multiple joints and may shift from one joint to another.

While skin rash and dry eyes are symptoms associated with various diseases, they are not characteristic features of rheumatic fever. A rash, known as erythema marginatum, can occur but is relatively uncommon and not as defining as joint inflammation. Dry eyes are not recognized as a symptom of rheumatic fever. Thus, the hallmark manifestation that directly indicates this condition is indeed joint inflammation.
